In 1968-69, I was onboard USS New Jersey off South Vietnam and we conducted an unrep with Isbell. The AJ Ops boss stood on the DASH deck dressed as Superman. When the ship broke off, she took of like a veritable rocket (relatively, of course). I was impressed as she lifted from the sea and took off.
I know it was the ops boss because he was still there when I was transferred to Isbell in Oct ’69.

I was on board the Isbell then. I recall that unrep. Both captains decided to have a 5 mile drag race. Our captain had up a full head of steam before we broke away. We won!. We could see the New Jersey catching up before the race ended.
